I hate technology…I love technology…

It’s an ongoing struggle.

I’ve even referred to myself as a high-tech Luddite. Of course, what this really means is that when the technology works, I love it — especially if it works effortlessly. When it doesn’t work — or makes me struggle with it — I hate it. Why won’t it just do what I want it to?

Today’s frustration trigger comes from Google. Suddenly, I can no longer access the YouTube channels I manage without linking them directly to a Google account. Okay, fine, whatever — except that what this meant in practice is that I could not sign in to my primary YouTube channel, Casa Dexter, where I have posted over 200 videos over the last 2 years. Even when I went ahead and signed up for a Google account, access to YouTube.com/casadexter remained blocked because my Google account had been automatically linked to my other main channel, BTTVComedyAustin.

So I had to sign up for a gmail account in order to link to CasaDexter. This was not immediately apparent nor was it apparent why I could neither have 2 YouTube channels linked to a single email (as I have had for some time now) nor change the primary Google account linkage to CasaDexter without first cancelling the link to BTTVComedyAustin.

Mind you, Google with its ever-so-helpful-but-no-human-touch help hints, did not provide an easy route to finding this answer. Instead, it ever-so-helpfully informed me that this change was to “reduce the number of passwords” I would require. FAIL! Now I not only have more passwords, I have more usernames.

I can’t wait till I try and upload another video over on the third YouTube channel I administer, armadillochristmasba (for the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar, but you can’t spell that out as a channel name — too many letters). Oh, well, having just posted the monthly off-season clip (the 25th of every month) for the Bazaar’s channel, I have a few weeks before I have to confront that issue.

On the “I love technology” end of things, my aging iPhone had been showing a nearly dead battery seemingly incapable of recharging for most of a week. I pondered replacing the battery or the phone itself. Then, for no apparent reason, it showed up as fully-charged again yesterday evening.

Like I said: I hate technology…I love technology…
