4 Songs to Hum Heading Home — plus a bonus track!

Last week, we were on the road home (by way of Balmorhea State Park) so I posted a set-list of music videos of road songs from the good ol’ Grateful Dead.

Well, we’ve been home a few days now, so I’ve been listening to some tunes about heading home. Right, I get it — we’re already here now, but these tunes still speak of the joy of the journey not just away, not to just somewhere, but that sweet ride home.

L.A. Freeway — Guy Clark

You gotta leave somewhere to head home and no one sings better about that need to leave and get gone than the late, great Guy Clark.

Hill Country Rain — Jerry Jeff Walker

Guy wrote L.A. Freeway but a lot of us learned it first from Jerry Jeff Walker. Here’s one from “Scamp” Walker himself, along with some Gonzo compadres: John Inmon, Bob Livingston, Freddie Krc, Lloyd Maines, and Brian Piper.

London Homesick Blues — Gary P. Nunn

Another of Jerry Jeff’s Lost Gonzo Band, Gary P. Nunn, provided this anthemic ode, giving voice to the homesickness that afflicts Austinites, drawing us ever homeward.

Good Enough — Ducharme-Jones Band

Finally, from our friends, Dave & Annie Ducharme-Jones: the unofficial anthem of South Austin, our home — and our feelings exactly!

Welcome home!

BONUS: That Godforsaken Hell-hole I Call Home — Austin Lounge Lizards

Okay, your mileage may vary, as they say.

If “home” holds a different promise for your return, maybe you prefer the Austin Lounge Lizards’ take on the subject (audio w/ still picture).

Welcome home?
