Will left Austin at one point and headed out to his dad’s ranch near San Angelo, Texas. A little while later, he moved back to town to work on the songs that became “The Weathering.” Playing here at the Cactus Cafe, he brought back some other new songs as well. This one has always been a favorite of mine.
Transcriber’s note: Some of these lyrics are difficult for me to decipher. In those instances, I have attempted to determine what Will sings but have noted the uncertainty by italicizing the lines that remain unclear to me. I would gladly accept any additional hints on what you hear.
I’ve got extra money since she’s gone,
She’s still the one I spend it on.
I’ll take her memory out tonight,
Well, she’ll be time traveling, it’ll be all right.
I’ll raise a toast
To her ghost,
It’s the most I can do.
She warms my thinking
Like a whiskey singing —
Tonight, I’m drinking for two.
Here illegally from Mexico,
A drug charge later, she was headed home.
We had a home together,
Now it’s gone.
And my punctured heart is living on.
I’ll raise a toast
To her ghost,
It’s the most I can do.
She warms my thinking
Like a whiskey singing —
Tonight, I’m drinking for two.
The bar maid says that I should go,
Should I pack my bag for Mexico?
I get paranoid on a moving thought
One more round,
It’s a double shot.
I’ll raise a toast
To her ghost,
It’s the most I can do.
She warms my thinking
Like a whiskey singing —
Tonight, I’m drinking for two.
