Earworm Today: “It Goes Like It Goes”

Nothing new or original from me today. Instead, this song and its chorus caught my ear last night and won’t let go. That’s okay, though. I rather like having this earworm run on a loop in my head today.

Written by David Shire & Norman Gimbel and beautifully performed by Jennifer Warnes, the song, “It Goes Like It Goes,” plays under the opening and closing credits of the movie, “Norma Rae.” That title role won Sally Field her first Oscar and this song won Best Original Song. Jennifer’s delivers the lyrics far better than I can, so I’ll just quote the chorus that became my earworm today:

So it goes like it goes and the river flows,
And time it rolls right on…
And maybe what’s good gets a little bit better,
And maybe what’s bad gets gone.

The closing couplet echoes inside me, lifting a smile, a mantra for these weary times:

And maybe what’s good gets a little bit better,
And maybe what’s bad gets gone.

Certainly I wish that for each of you and for all of us.
