Songs of Christmas — A Baker’s Dozen

Nothing sets the stage for the holiday season like seasonal songs. Here are a few of my favorites for your enjoyment featuring everyone from Aaron Neville to John Lennon to classic monster movie heavy Christopher Lee — with a good, heavy dose coming from my old home in Austin.

These tunes range from traditional songs beautifully rendered to modern satires, to songs of hope and joy.

We’ll kick off this collection with several from the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar, another holiday tradition.

Armadillo Christmas Bazaar

Marcia Ball — “Please Come Home for Christmas”

Ernie Gammage — “All I Have for Christmas is the Blues”

Bobby Bridger — “Silver Bells”

Steve Fromholz — “The Christmas Song”

Sara Hickman & Barton Hills Children’s Choir

Joe King Carrasco y El Molina — “Tamale Christmas”

Jimmy LaFave & the Night Tribe — “Blue Christmas”

Christopher Lee — “Silent Night”

Austin Lounge Lizards — “Xmas Time for Visa”

Robert Earl Keen — “Merry Christmas from the Family”

Therapy Sisters — “Pachebel’s Tantrum”

Aaron Neville — “O Holy Night”

John Lennon — “Happy Christmas (War is Over)”

Enjoy in joy!
