Songs of Will T. Massey — “It’s Midnight All Day Long”

Will wrote this signature song during the LA production sessions for his debut MCA album, Will T. Massey. As he would point out later, the lyrics clearly reflected some of the storms inside his mind as he rode a rocket of sudden fame into the star-studded stratosphere.

Will always wrote deeply personal songs from his heart and some, like this one as well as “I Ain’t Here,” hinted at the coming mental struggles he faced fighting his schizophrenia.

It’s scary in here
I’m all alone,
Trapped in a tear
Of the great unknown.
It’s crystal clear,
Bare to the bone,
Desperately near,
Far from home.

It’s midnight all day long.
The sun don’t set.
The world just rolls around,
Then it’s gone.

It’s scary in here,
I’m all alone.
Wings on a year,
Seconds in stone
You face my fears,
Your soul’s my own,
Loneliness nears,
Love’s on loan.

It’s midnight all day long.
Don’t be upset.
If the moon comes out
‘Round about dawn.

I don’t love you enough to let you go.
You call me a liar, but even so,
You trust me somehow.
Do you trust me now?

I was talking with my friend
Down at the record store.
I said “I won’t be
Hanging around here much more.”
It’s been so long since
I could really laugh,
My future is written
Like an epitaph.

It’s midnight all day long.
The sun don’t set.
The world just rolls around,
Then it’s gone.
Don’t be upset.
It’s midnight all day long.
Let’s just let
The moonlight shine on.

All day long…
All day long…
All day long…
