Yes, this is the 800th blog post from the Buller Back Porch. Sounds impressive until you realize that’s 800 posts over 11 years. So, it’s not like that’s 800 posts in a row, or even in the last year. Things got off to a slow start back in 2011. I didn’t post at all in 2012.
Still, it does represent an amazing accumulation of the results of a maintaining a daily practice. Oh, I’m not claiming that the blogging has been daily. No, I’m more specifically talking about my daily practice of a morning freewrite. But that often serves not only as a warm-up exercise for brain and fingers, but it often gives me a chance to try out some ideas for the blog and maybe even some prose I can use to springboard into writing the “real thing” over here.
I do share some of the credit with two “co-bloggers”: my grandfather, G.M.C. Massey, and my cousin, Will T. Massey. Granddad left reams of manuscript pages compiling his memoirs at age 80, and I’ve shared a lot of clippings from those. Will is a prolific sing-er-songwriter, so I’ve devoted a lot of posts to sharing lyrics & music for many of his songs, both recorded/released and some unpublished songs as well.
Well, that’s enough self-congratulation for one post.
Onward to 900…1,000…and beyond!
