Awoke with this song in my mind recently, not quite recognizing it. All morning, the melody chased my memory until I remembered it as one of Will’s songs that I had recently reheard.
Specifically, it’s the closing tune from his first self-released cassette, Pickin’, Poker & Pickup Trucks. I haven’t posted many of those songs here. Like many first efforts from young artists, it’s uneven. Not all of the songs stand up over time.
This one does, for me. In a season of personal loss and grief, this resonates deeply. And I still can’t shake it out of my mind.
The sun fades away and the moon will rise
Changes come like tears to our eyes.
A diamond burns down in a silent sky,
“I love you” echoes goodbye.
No reason, there’s no rhyme,
Everything has its time
The rain comes tumbling, river flows for a while,
Rapids of laughter, splashing smiles,
Then it’s into the sea
And back to the sky…
I’ll be seeing you
In the clouds of my mind.
No reason, there’s no rhyme,
Everything has its time.Say a prayer and don’t ask why.
Close your eyes —Say good-bye.
