Songs of Will T. Massey — “Haunted Eyes”

Will T. MasseyIt’s been 5 years since Will released any new music. His most recent release, The Weathering, had been in the works even before he left Austin in early 2014. When he returned, he worked on recording the songs he had written for the collection.

This is a song Will wrote while working on the other tunes for the album, Unsure at first whether to include it or not, he finally decided to put this on the album as well.

Glad that he did — love this song.

An open hotel window to the sleeping highway,
Dreaming those eighteen wheels.
You’re like a joint I’m rolling
For my lonesome lips,
You’re magical
And you feel the way I feel.

Angeline, I couldn’t mean
‘Forever’ anymore.
I’ve been shown too many doors
To be surprised.
Angeline, that doesn’t mean
I won’t love you a long time —
Pretty girl,
I see the world
With haunted eyes.

The blonde over your ear
Caught a leaf yesterday.
Your eyes held nights
You’d like to forget.
As the first drops of rain
Fell through the cigarette smoke,
We didn’t talk awhile
While considering a bit.

Angeline, you couldn’t mean
‘Forever’ anymore.
You’ve been shown too many doors
To be surprised.
Angeline, that doesn’t mean
You won’t love me a long time —
Pretty girl,
You see the world
With haunted eyes.

That old highway is dreaming me tonight.
And I’m sorry that you understand.
I’ve seen the real thing wasted in the wind —
You don’t always have yourself a man.

Angeline, we couldn’t mean
‘Forever’ anymore.
We’ve been shown too many doors
To be surprised.
Angeline, that doesn’t mean
We won’t love us a long time —
Pretty girl,
We see the world
With haunted eyes.
